How does the Paint Protection Film stick?
The back of the Paint Protection Film is covered with a light adhesive, activated by spraying the surface with the Applicator Solution. (25% Isopropyl Alcohol, 75% Water)
Will Paint Protection Film harm the painted surface if the film is removed?
If the film is properly applied to a fully cured bicycle, it can be removed without damaging painted surfaces beneath the film.
Can Paint Protection Film be applied over a bicycle that has had the paint touched up?
We recommend that any repainted surfaces on your bicycle are fully cured before applying Paint Protection Film. Depending on the quality of the touch up paint and surface preparation, it is possible that the area around the touch-up paint could peel off. The film will protect the area until the film is removed.
Is the Paint Protection Film visible once applied?
The Paint Protection Film's 8 mil thickness make the film virtually invisible. What does this mean? When viewed from a short distance (approx.3 ft), the film is almost impossible to spot. The film's edges are only visible when viewed from a short distance |
Can you paint or apply a clearcoat over the Paint Protection Film?
Unlikely that this would be considered for a bicycle application and it is not recommended. Use at your own risk. Film is supplied with an OEM-approved clearcoat which is not formulated to be over-printed, painted or clearcoated.
Can I cover the whole bike with Paint Protection Film?
It is possible, but the product is really intended for the most vulnerable areas of the bicycle.
Can Paint Protection Film be applied over graphics/stickers?
The clear film will not interfere with vinyl or painted graphics and is designed to match the gloss levels of today's factory clearcoat paint systems, providing virtually invisible protection. However, if the Paint Protection Film is removed, damage may occur to the underlying graphic/sticker during the removal process.
What's the warranty
There is a two year warranty on the film.
Does Paint Protection Film stick to plastic?
Yes. The Paint Protection Film will stick to most smooth surfaces, but it will not stick to areas such as welds or brazings. |
Does Paint Protection Film resist yellowing?
Yes, it resists yellowing because the film is constructed of thermoplastic urethane, a tough, conformable material that is covered by a clear coat layer. The film and clear coat layers contain UV protectants to counteract harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause yellowing.
How is Paint Protection Film maintained?
Once applied, refrain from washing/wetting/cleaning your bike for 24 hours. After this period, no special care need be taken for the film. Use same care and non-abrasive products used for the rest of your bicycle.
Can I use wax over Paint Protection Film?
Yes. When waxing the bike, some wax may build up along the film edges. This can easily be removed when dry with a soft brush such as an old toothbrush. Do not use any waxes containing dyes or waxes that are not recommended for urethanes. Abrasive polishes and/or rubbing compounds are not to be used.
How is Paint Protection Film removed?
If desired, film can be removed at any time by picking up a corner of the film and pulling the film off the bike surface at a 90-degree angle. If the film has been present a long time, or if the film and bike surface are cold, a heat gun or hair dryer may be used to soften the adhesive, allowing easier removal. If any adhesive remains on the painted surface after removal of the film, it can be removed by using 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (3M Part #08984), according to the package directions.
If Paint Protection Film is removed from the bicycle, can it be re-used?
No. Once the film has been applied and set, the adhesive will not stick a second time.
What if Paint Protection Film is installed incorrectly? |
Film can usually be repositioned as long as the adhesive side of the film is still wet. It is important to avoid excessive handling of the film during application. |
